Roaches - Successful Control and Maintenance

Roaches are one of the hardest creatures to control! One reason they are difficult to control is their uncanny ability to adapt. Basically, roaches are exactly the same creature they were a billion years ago. Man has only been in the picture a short period of that time so it isn't mankind helping them out. They adapt beautifully on their own.
Another issue that makes roaches difficult to control is their thick exoskeleton. Very few bugs have that thick of a shell. Unfortunately, you know how thick it is if you stomp on one and hear that dreadful pop!
Keep in mind that gaining control of roaches (an infestation) is very different from maintaining an environment without roaches. The very best way to deal with roaches is to prevent them from becoming an issue to begin with. But if you have a roach infestation, here are the steps.
First step - secure a safe, natural product that successfully controls roaches. DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS as they are toxic to you, your home, and the environment! Plus, the roaches have adapted to many of them and they are no longer effective.
Determine all the area(s) you want roach-free as you will initially spray both on the inside and the outside of those spaces. Some argue to spray the outside first so that it forces them inside where you can then spray and kill them.
To get the process started, spray on Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 both inside and outside using the safe, natural product. Spray all floor boards, door and window thresholds, under sinks, in cabinets, in closets, trash cans, etc. Everywhere a roach would hide, you want to spray!
You should see roaches upside down either dead or dying. The rule of thumb is for every dead roach you see, there are ten more you don't see. If your infested area is still producing a lot of dead roaches, keep this spraying schedule up another 3 days.
If the roaches entered from outside, continue spraying the outside every other day for three more applications. If your roaches festered from inside, continue spraying inside every other day for three applications. Regardless of the source of the roaches, you should have great control now and can move to maintenance to prevent roaches again.
Maintaining a roach-free area prevents them from entering. Spray the outside of your home once a week for three weeks. If you see no evidence of roaches inside, then stretch applications to every 10 days for two applications. Then stretch it to every other week, then every three weeks and eventually get to a successful once a month application.
Once the barrier is established, it is just a matter of keeping it intact. If any roaches appear at any given time, tighten your spray schedule back up to more frequent sprays and then stretch out the intervals as control is maintained.
